Poem: Compassion

Pexels.com
Empathy pours out through the eyes
Goodwill is in the smile
Corner of the eyelids crinkle
Soothing words echo reminders
Sweet rain that births flowers
Feeds dreams that wake the sun again
Handshake of welcome
Bow that reflects respect
The highest compliment
Is a Korean bow that extends
Gracefully to the floor
Hands outstretched
Compassion is a gift that will return
When you need it most
With unexpected grace

  1. Lovely and beautiful poem that emphasizes the beauty of compassion and healing balm in one’s words and actions (like the Korean bow).
Getting to know cats in the house I’ve lived in for the past 3 years (Leo my landlady’s orange ginger cat 🐈 and Mayco my landlady’s Callico cat 🐈‍⬛) has actually taught me a lot about compassion and empathy.
Despite the stereotype of cats supposedly being antisocial that is held by many people, cats are actually shining exemplars of compassion and healing.

    1. Thank you, Christopher. Compassion brings grateful tears when I experience grace.

I love cats. I agree they have a false reputation for being aloof. Almost all cats that I’ve known (besides stray cats and even some of them are friendly) have been affectionate and playful. I’m glad that Leo and Mayco keep you company. Animals often have a wisdom that many people lack. They’re loyal and supportive.
