Poem: Startings and Endings

I could write endlessly
of what I miss from the past
How did it evaporate so fast?
it disappeared
melted like sugar glass

The new generation
of ADD fast
see the past
as an archaic relic
slow motion boring
they’re curser click
impatient for immediate
likes and gratification
racing to grow up and away

How did I become this?
Old body struggling
My eyes slur the lines
they merge twin doublefold
peer into the cold
false light LED bright
flickering blue secretly
winking like a villain

Will the past ever
rendezvous back
one final bloom?
Before the impending doom
that hovers thick
so overconfidently

Will there be a pause
a momentary mist
of deja vu radiance
like a lighthouse
like a mirror
single lens reflex
a camera of love

Sweet answered prayers
tears are rainfalling
joy shared with you
enclosed me with belonging
now we’re living ghosts
longing for an alternative

All of this unbearable
perfectly broken
startings and endings
hope and mercy
misery and mystery
You can never grasp it all
until the very end

  1. Poignant and beautiful words of reflection. It’s like staring at a pond and seeing our past self when our energy and enthusiasm for life was boundless before the weariness of experiences that seem to drain us little by little.
God bless you always and in the kingdom of heaven we will be free of our broken physical bodies. 🙏🏽🕊️

  2. I imagine every generation reaching the point where this poem is their reflection on life. It is often said that we walk forward into the future facing toward the past. Your poem is an anthem to those who know there are less days ahead than behind. How wonderful it would be if our remaining time were like the best memories of the past. What can we do to make that come true? Or, must we leave it behind us and pray the best is yet to come?

    1. Thank you very much. Ilove your thoughts, my friend. “forward into the future facing toward the past” resonates the feeling so well. I think there’s still time (as long as we’re alive, to experience moments to treasure, (I hope so)🕊️
