Decluttering Depression + Poem: Beatitudes and Revelations

Sorry I’ve been away (for much longer than I expected), I’m taking a break on re-editing and reposting—it’s overwhelming to reinvent my entire blog, my perfectionistic tendencies drain my energy quickly. Action and resting are elements that can work together well, if they’re balanced. I think I’ve been hibernating for these past 4 years, 2020 seems like a decade ago; the disasters still keep piling up. What a cluttered mess we’re in, but change is always silently in action.

Spring Cleaning is a real-life metaphor that I’m applying not just to this blog’s content, but to my entire life: I want to revitalize my intentions and my actions. I want to be less angry/reactive, less depressed/in a state of inertia, I want to slim down/exercise for health and aesthetic reasons and I want to let go of what I no longer have an affinity for. Mentally and physically decluttering my life feels like a daunting task but I have the Holy Spirit to remind and guide me so I feel hopeful that positive changes are happening already, (thank you Jesus). I’m going to pace my progress and try to practice kindness (patience with each stage that I’m at).

The physical aspect might take awhile especially because I moved to Texas in a chaotic rush. I let go of a lot of perfectly good things in CA because there was no room in the moving Pod or in my new location. I had to cram my 1.5 BR apt into a small bedroom within a house. Most of my books/papers/clothes were placed haphazardly in clear storage totes, with an assumption that I would fine tune the sifting process in TX but I never did. Depression (aka stagnation) froze everything in a time capsule state of limbo.

Several times I attempted to go through the closets and storage bins but I gave up relatively quickly in a state of sweaty frustration, (the bins were mountainously piled up in a sauna-like garage) but last week something slightly shifted. I bought new storage shelving and it inspired me to declutter. I’ve been slowly reorganizing little sections first: the closets. The phrases: in the closet and out of sight out of mind, says so much; closets are hiding places for every miscellaneous and random thing—at least that’s how I’ve been abusing them. I’m going at a turtle’s speed but the steady pace wins the race. :).

Here’s a revised poem that I’ve been working on since my last post. The rhyme scheme is ABCC, ABCB alternating. I’m expanding away from my usual “haiku in variations”—exploring using rhyme schemes and patterned structure.

Beatitudes:

Supreme blessedness or happiness.

Beatitudes and Revelations

Blessed are the poor
Blessed are the humble
Steady pace is full of grace
Earnest heart wins the race

Life is a marathon
of surviving trials
Alpha status seeking
is full of doubt and denials

Ego pampers you with lies
confuses and bruises
False friends
betray you in the end

The fast lane of pride
will crash you in disgrace
The slow lane of patience
saves your sweet face

Blessed are those
who hunger and thirst
yearn to be good
do what you should

Love is accountable
for what it started
it won’t leave you
broken hearted

Blessed are the peacemakers
Don’t seek to win
turn the other cheek
it’s the opposite of weak

The peaceful will see
God’s radiant face
protected in the mercy seat
tears wiped without a trace

Blessed are the merciful
forgiving their persecutors
Gentleness is what Jesus preached
faith in God is what Jesus teached

Jesus modeled for us
how to rise above
transcend the sorrow
transform hate to love

Jesus teached,
blessed are you
when you are rejected
blessed, when you’re subjected

The first will be the last
the last will be the first
satan will be chained
demons will be cursed

Blessed are the mourners
their wounds mend stronger
their broken hearts
split aimless darts

Never seek revenge
Don’t stoop to evil’s level
Let go of pride
Don’t become a devil

Blessed are those
that seek and follow Jesus
Blessed are the gentle
give grace to the mental

Be rescued
saved like a treasure
the faithful bride redeemed
judged by God’s measure

Rescued in the harvest
wheat separated from the weeds
escaped from impending gloom
barred from approaching doom

When satan’s loosed
unrestrained rage
unlike anything known before
when darkness leaves it’s twisted cage

God help this godless world
where nightmares become reality
demons will plunder and rape
they’ll be no escape

Don’t succumb to fear
their false reign will be fast
7 years of bloodstained tears
but the pain won’t last

Death will be begged for
but it will not come
If you’re unfortunately here
do not give in to despair

While you’re alive
there’s always hope
Be martyred if necessary
repent and be revived

Not even the angels know
when the day of glory is
Slow and true does not stumble
speak the truth and stay humble

Death is not the end
it’s actually a gate
everyone will pass through it
the saved will graduate

This halflife is a dream
a mirage fading fast
but it’s worth it in the end
reborn a beloved child of God again

The dead will revive glorious
we reap what we sow
like newborn angels
as God’s true rainbow.

The Beatitudes:

  1. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  2. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
  3. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
  4. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
  5. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
  6. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
  7. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
  8. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  9. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

    1. Thank you! It’s amazing how easy it is to accumulate things but not easy to sift through them. I think that’s a good habit to reaccess what you have stored each summer, focusing on a specific thing to declutter makes the task less daunting too.

      1. I just decluttered my bedroom closet of clothes to donate, it feels good. I like your idea of doing that seasonally. I found some exercise gear in the closet, exercise is a good goal.
